"Crows Along The Yellowstone"

ORIGINAL: 18 x 30 inches,  Oil on Linen

Loren's inspiration: "I love painting on location in Montana because there is so much diversity in landscape - everything from river bottoms with cottonwoods, pine covered hills, canyon lands, and sagebrush flats with junipers and cedars, to high alpine meadows and lakes. The varied terrain is a constant inspiration to me and I love going out and painting from life. I took the canvas out for this painting and started it right along the Yellowstone. I could very well imagine Crow Indians following the river on horses. The canvas size was large for a field study, so I returned to work on the landscape in the same location and light a second day until I was satisfied with it. I took it back to my studio and added the Crows coming down the river."
